Denko John Mortensen interview
Completed on July 10, 2009
Denko John Mortsensen is a Rinzai priest and the guiding teacher of Egely Monastery (Taikyo-ji) located in the small town of Østermarie on the island of Bornholm in Denmark. He began his Zen training in Japan, 1971. There he trained at Ryutaku-Ji, where he met the famous master Soen Nakagawa-Roshi. Later he became a student of one of Soen-Roshi’s Dharma successors, Eido Tai Shimano-Roshi, who ordained him a Buddhist monk on July 4, 1980. In 2002 he received inka, the Rinzai equivalent of Dharma transmission, from Eido-Roshi. I would like to thank Denko for participating in this interview.
